Court Adjourns Ex-NSA Dasuki’s N33.2Billion Trial For EFCC To Update Witness List

Justice Charles Agbaza of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, adjourned the trial of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), to October 31, 2025.

The adjournment was granted to allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to update its list of witnesses and continue the trial.

Dasuki is facing prosecution by the EFCC on an amended 32-count charge of criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving N33.2 billion.

He is being tried alongside former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) General Manager Aminu Baba-Kusa, as well as two companies, identified as Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited.

Count one alleges that Dasuki, while serving as National Security Adviser in November 2014, misappropriated N10 billion, along with $47 million and €5.6 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria, which was intended for special security services, and instead diverted the funds to support the PDP presidential primary election.

He is charged with criminal breach of trust under Section 315 of the Penal Code Act.

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read to them.

Testifying in court, EFCC detective Adariku Michael said the anti-graft agency acted on an intelligence report in September 2015 alleging large-scale fund movements by the ONSA between October 2014 and April 2015.

He added that a special task force led by ACE 1 Halimah Kazeem was assigned to investigate, starting with a letter to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Counsel for Baba-Kusa, Solomon Umoh, SAN, objected to Michael’s testimony, noting that his name was not on the EFCC’s original witness list.

EFCC counsel O. Atolagbe responded that Michael had previously testified before the Chief Judge and had tendered documents to the court. Atolagbe also highlighted that the case has lasted nearly ten years and requested an adjournment to regularise the Commission’s witness list, which the defence did not oppose.

After hearing both sides, the court adjourned the trial to October 31, 2025, for continuation.
