The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, on February 11, 2026, received officials of the Plateau State Government for the official flag-off of the Mban–Gwiwakogi Bridge and its 5.8-kilometre access road, marking a significant breakthrough in the infrastructural advancement of the Local Government Area.
The project, flagged off on behalf of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, by the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven, follows sustained engagement and advocacy aimed at addressing the long-standing transportation challenges faced by communities along the Mban–Gwiwakogi corridor.
For years, residents, particularly farmers, traders, students, and commuters, have endured seasonal hardship due to the absence of a functional bridge across the river, with tragic consequences recorded during heavy rainfall. The commencement of construction now offers renewed hope for permanent relief and safer mobility.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Pirfa Tyem described the project as a turning point for Langtang North, noting that improved connectivity will significantly enhance economic productivity, facilitate easier movement of goods and services, strengthen agricultural supply chains, and deepen commercial interaction with neighbouring Wase Local Government Area. He emphasised that infrastructure of this nature is fundamental to unlocking the full economic potential of rural communities.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Mutfwang for responding to the needs of Langtang North and for demonstrating commitment to inclusive development across Plateau State. He reaffirmed that his administration remains fully aligned with the Governor’s vision of expanding infrastructure to underserved areas and ensuring that no community is left behind.
Hon. Tyem assured the State Government and Craneburg Construction Company of the Local Government’s full cooperation, adding that community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders have been sensitised on the importance of protecting the project and supporting its timely completion. He stressed that the Local Government will continue to prioritise peace, stability, and strategic collaboration as essential drivers of sustainable development.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works explained that the bridge became imperative following recurring incidents at the river crossing point, including the loss of seven lives during the last rainy season. He reiterated the Governor’s resolve to invest in durable infrastructure that enhances safety, stimulates commerce, and strengthens regional integration.
The Member representing Langtang North Constituency at the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Abel Nansak Nimchak, commended both the State and Local Government leadership for their collaborative approach and described the bridge as a long-awaited solution to a critical challenge affecting the area.
With construction now underway, the Mban–Gwiwakogi axis is expected to experience increased agricultural activity, improved market access, stronger inter-community relations, and growing investor confidence as accessibility improves.
The event was attended by traditional rulers led by the Ponzhi Gani, serving and former lawmakers, members of the Local Government Executive and Management, the Deputy Chairman, delegation from Wase Local Government Area, youth leaders, and other stakeholders.
The commencement of the bridge project reflects the growing synergy between the Plateau State Government and the Langtang North Local Government Council in delivering tangible development to the grassroots.
