Group ask Tinubu to Ignore Calls for IGP Egbetokun’s Removal, says Call Unpatriotic

.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance has strongly condemned the recent calls for the removal of Mr. Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by some groups, including a faceless group claiming to represent the Association of Serving and Retired Senior Police Officers and a group of unnamed newspaper editors.

The coalition in a statement, issued in Lagos and jointly signed by Comrade Olalekan Johnson, Secretary and Jude Ochiaga Publicity Secretary, said the calls are nothing more than a desperate attempt by certain politicians to undermine the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly following the controversial local government elections in Rivers State. It said the so-called association and unnamed editors are merely creations of these politicians, seeking to manipulate the police for their own selfish gains.

“Mr. Kayode Egbetokun has demonstrated exemplary leadership throughout his career, rising through the ranks based on a track record of outstanding performance and professionalism. His dedication to service has been evident from his entry into the force to his current role as IGP. Under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force has experienced significant reforms aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and restoring public confidence.” the statement further said.

“We reaffirm the confidence of the Nigerian people, as well as the men and women of the Nigeria Police Force, in the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The various reforms and initiatives introduced under his stewardship have been vital in strengthening national security and upholding the rule of law.”

The group also urge President Bola Tinubu to disregard the calls for Mr. Egbetokun’s removal, describing such as unpatriotic, saying such actions not only threaten national security but also seek to disrupt the rule of law in Nigeria.

“The Coalition hereby passes a vote of confidence in Mr. Kayode Egbetokun and encourages all Nigerians to continue supporting the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force under his guidance. Together, we must prioritize the stability and security of our nation above all else.” the statement concluded.
