The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has visited the family of the popular Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Nwamba fondly called Igbo-Jah who was allegedly gruesomely murdered by an inspector attached to Anti-cult Tactical Squad unit.
The police in Enugu disclosed the identity of the killer police officer as Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph and also released his photographs.
SaharaReporters had reported earlier on Saturday how the deceased musician was shot and killed by an inspector on Friday evening after he visited the headquarters of the Anti-cult Tactical Squad.
It was also reported that following the incident, some residents of Enugu rose in protest against the extrajudicial killing of the local musician, demanded justice and that the police should provide the identity of the murderer.
However, following the exacerbating tension occasioned by protests, the police commissioner in company of top officials of the State Government, visited the family of the deceased, to console them over the unfortunate incident to calm fried nerves.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe quoted the commissioner to have reassured the family, relatives, friends, and good people of Enugu State that the ongoing investigation into the case will be concluded within record time and justice duly served.
“The CP emphasised that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined organisation where erring police officers are made to face the consequences of their actions to serve as deterrence to others.
“He restated his sympathy and empathy to everyone affected by the unfortunate and callous murder of the musician, urging all and sundry to keep faith with the police while justice is done to the case.”
The statement further disclosed the identity of the killer police officer as Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph, with unredacted photographs.
“He is currently in custody and will be made to face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the command said.
