Doctor Initially Sentenced To Life For Rape, Accused Of Threatening, Harassing Wife And Victim After Fleeing To UK

The embattled Lagos-based medical doctor and Managing Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr. Femi Olaleye, who fled to the United Kingdom after his conviction for rape was overturned by the Court of Appeal, is facing fresh allegations of threats, harassment, intimidation, and defamation against his wife, children, and the victim of his alleged sexual assault.

Dr. Olaleye was initially convicted by the Lagos Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in October 2023 for child defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

The court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

However, in November 2024, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction, citing errors in the lower court’s judgment and deeming the prosecution’s evidence as “tainted” and “unreliable.”

Despite his acquittal, the Lagos State Government filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, seeking a review of the appellate court’s decision.

The appeal, signed by Dr. Babajide Martins, head of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Lagos, was officially received on December 27, 2024.

The state’s legal team presented three key arguments in urging the Supreme Court to set aside the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

In the midst of the appeal process, Dr. Olaleye reportedly fled to the United Kingdom, prompting the Executive Director of the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence, Gbenga Soloki, to raise concerns over his evasion of justice.

Beyond fleeing, he now faces accusations of continued harassment and threats against his wife, Mrs. Aderemi Olaleye, their two minor children, and his alleged rape victim—who is also his wife’s niece.

A London-based law firm, Clearshield Compliance, has issued a cease-and-desist notice against Dr. Olaleye, accusing him of launching a campaign of threats, harassment, and defamation.

The notice, dated February 22, 2025, was signed by attorney Michael A. Thornwell and titled: “Cease and Desist Notice; Ref: CF/FOL/2024/002 – Re: Aggravated Harassment and Defamation of Mrs. Aderemi Olaleye & Endangerment of Children and Vulnerable Individuals.”

The letter alleges that Dr. Olaleye has engaged in a systematic pattern of threats and intimidation, particularly against his wife and her niece, who remains under her care.

It further states that his actions have caused psychological distress to his own children, particularly his daughter, who is undergoing therapy after witnessing the sexual abuse of her cousin.

“You feign victimhood, propagating unfounded and baseless allegations against Mrs. Aderomi Olaleye and your own children in a pathetically transparent attempt to deflect from your own abhorrent conduct,” the letter states.

It added, “Your digital pronouncements are a cynical exercise in self-preservation, willfully blind to the immense damage you inflict, particularly upon your children.”

The law firm also claims that Dr. Olaleye sent an email to his son in the UK admitting his actions while continuing a campaign of harassment against his victims.

The letter highlights findings from Nigeria’s National Population Commission confirming the age of his wife’s niece at the time of the alleged crime, solidifying the credibility of the charges against him.

The law firm outlined multiple allegations against Dr. Olaleye, including that he repeatedly raped his wife’s niece when she was 15, drugged and sexually assaulted vulnerable patients both in Nigeria and the UK, and displayed a pattern of predatory behavior.

The firm also accused him of secretly recording his victims without consent and using these recordings for blackmail and further degradation.

The law firm also alleged that while employed at Darrent Valley Hospital NHS Trust in the UK, Olaleye allegedly engaged in egregious unprofessional sexual misconduct with patients, violating medical ethics and the Hippocratic Oath.

His supervisor at King’s College Hospital reportedly refused to grant him clearance for further certification in obstetrics and gynecology due to his lack of professional and ethical integrity.

The letter stated that his actions have left his children traumatised, describing his behavior as “demonstrably unfit for parenthood” and calling for intervention from UK child protection authorities.

The letter further warned that his escape to the UK will not shield him from legal consequences, emphasising that “geographical distance offers no absolution.”

Clearshield Compliance declared its intention to escalate the matter to UK authorities, including the Metropolitan Police, Social Services, and the Crown Prosecution Service, to ensure intervention and justice for the victims.

The firm demanded that Dr. Olaleye immediately cease all forms of harassment and defamation against his wife, her niece, and their children.

“Women, in particular, are united in their outrage and revulsion at your alleged conduct, a collective voice that resonates far beyond the often-dismissed realm of social media,” the letter asserts.

“Public condemnation of your alleged atrocities is overwhelming and entirely justified,” it added.

The law firm has given Dr. Olaleye seven days to provide written confirmation of his compliance with the cease-and-desist notice.

Failure to do so, the letter warns, will lead to further legal actions both in Nigeria and the UK.

With the Supreme Court set to review the Lagos State Government’s appeal against his acquittal, legal experts believe that if the conviction is reinstated, Nigerian authorities could seek Olaleye’s extradition from the UK to serve his sentence.

The UK’s judicial system has strict extradition policies, but given the gravity of the charges and the international nature of the allegations, the case could gain traction within the UK legal system.

Meanwhile, women’s rights activists and advocacy groups continue to demand justice for the victims.

The case has sparked public outcry, with calls for stricter enforcement of laws against sexual violence and harsher consequences for convicted offenders who attempt to evade justice.

As legal proceedings unfold both in Nigeria and the UK, Dr. Olaleye remains under intense scrutiny.

His fate now rests on the outcomes of the Supreme Court’s decision and the potential intervention of UK authorities.

One thing remains certain—his attempt to flee from justice is unlikely to silence those demanding accountability.
