The Coordinator of the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement in Kosofe, Opeyemi Ogunlami, has knocked the Onikosi of Ikosi, Oba Alamu Oloyede Kehinde, over an alleged illegal demolition of homes, which has left several residents displaced.
The demolition, which reportedly took place between February 3 and 4, 2025, was carried out without prior notice, according to the affected residents.
The witnesses claimed that armed police officers, accompanied by bulldozers, arrived unannounced and began tearing down homes, leaving families homeless and in distress.
Speaking on the incident, Ogunlami condemned what he described as a growing trend of traditional rulers in Lagos displacing residents.
“This is no longer acceptable!” he declared, calling for an end to such forced evictions.
Following the intervention of Honourable Femi Saheed, Kosofe Constituency II Representative in the Lagos State House of Assembly, the demolition was halted.
However, residents allege that Oba Oloyede Kehinde has since issued further threats, vowing to resume the demolition.
Many now live in fear, uncertain about their future.
Ogunlami has urged the monarch to adhere to constitutional provisions and respect the rights of his people.
He warned that if the evictions continue, the displaced victims would have no choice but to seek refuge in the palace itself.
Residents are now calling on the government to address the situation and prevent further displacement.
