A police informant identified only as Sunny has been accused of repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Lagos, forcing her into silence with threats of violence.
SaharaReporters learnt that the suspect is a resident of Oshundola Street, Pako, Ikotun Bus Stop. He always identified himself as an informant of police officers attached to the Ikotun Police Station, Lagos State Command.
In multiple video recordings obtained by SaharaReporters, the young victim painfully narrated how her stepfather had been sexually abusing her for an extended period while her mother was away.
The girl, whose identity is being protected, detailed the horror she endured at the hands of a man entrusted with her care.
“The first day when the thing started, he told me to come and touch his chest. He said I should come and be romancing his body. When my mum came back, I told her, and she asked me if I am not lying. I told her I am not lying. She talked with my daddy (the stepfather) at night,” the girl recounted.
“But in the morning, when my mum left, he (my stepfather) started beating me. I did one small mistake, but he joined it together with the report. He wanted to stab me and I said, ‘Daddy, please.’ He said I had really embarrassed him for reporting what happened to my mummy.”
“He later came back to apologise for beating me and said it was a mistake. He then told me he wanted to tell me something. That was when he told me he wanted to have sex with me, that he wanted to “enter” me. I told him no. But he forced me. I was crying that time, that he wanted to take my virginity and that my mum had warned me to keep my virginity. But the man said he was not going to break my virginity.”
According to the girl, the abuse continued incessantly.
“The second time, that was when he started “entering” me (having sex with me). He is doing it every day. He used to do it in the morning anytime I did not go to school. He used to do it in the afternoon too.”
“I used to feel pain, and there was a time I told him I am not doing again because I had asked God for forgiveness. But he said, which kind of forgiveness is that one? That I should go and off my cloth.”
“He did it yesterday, and he did it this morning too.”
The girl further revealed how the man used threats to keep her quiet.
“When I told my mum about it, he said I should shut up whenever he called me. But I was afraid to tell my mum because he beat me. And anytime I want to shout, he will bring out a knife. And he will threaten that if I shout, he will use it to cut my head. He will say if he hears any noise from my mouth, he will use the knife to cut my head.”
A source close to the family expressed frustration at the mother’s refusal to take action against her husband despite the girl’s cries for help.
“Her stepfather always has carnal knowledge of her while her mother is away. She opened up to neighbours who reached out to me. I asked to get more details, but it all proved abortive as the mother said she’s not interested in doing any case with her husband, as she does not want her husband to be jailed. I was told the man’s name is Sunny,” the source disclosed.
“I was also told the stepfather was nagging and gallivanting that he is highly connected and that he works with the police as a watchdog, that he can’t be jailed.”
“I was told they live at Oshundola Street, Pako Bus Stop, Ikotun, Lagos. Since he lives around Ikotun, it’s possible he works with the Ikotun division.”
A neighbour, who was also aware of the abuse, recounted how the mother initially cried upon hearing about the assault but later decided to protect her husband instead of seeking justice for her daughter.
“There’s this girl at my friend’s house. Her stepdad used to have sex with her. She’s 13 years old. Her mother is not always around; she comes back on weekends.”
“Do you know that the woman cried when she came home and they told her? But later, when she went inside, she said they should forget it, that she doesn’t want her husband to go to jail.”
“She said that no one will take care of her kids.”
The neighbour further revealed how the alleged rapist brazenly boasted about his immunity from the law.
“The husband came back at night and started making noise that he will arrest his wife for not telling him.”
“He started shouting at my friend, and they told him that if not that there was no money to do the case, he wouldn’t have the mouth to shout or talk.”
“The man con dey make mouth say he’s a police agent, that he gives police information, that he’s a police informant.”
“That he can’t go to jail. Na so we close the case ohh.”
The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not pick up calls asking for his reaction. He has also yet to respond to messages as of the time of filing this report.
