Civil Society Coalition Condemns Attacks on Governor Adeleke, Labels Ajibola Basiru’s Outbursts as Politically Frustrated Antics

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance has condemned what it described as unwarranted and persistent media attacks on the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Ajibola Basiru. In a strongly worded press release issued on Monday, and signed by its Secretary Olalekan Johnson, the coalition described Mr. Basiru’s comments and campaigns against the governor as “a clear manifestation of political frustration and desperation.”

The coalition stated that Mr. Basiru’s outbursts are not only baseless but also rooted in his growing fears over Governor Adeleke’s wide acceptance and popularity across Osun State, particularly among the grassroots. According to the group, Mr. Basiru, who has suffered political rejection from his immediate constituency in Osogbo, is also facing mounting disapproval from within his own party, the APC.

“It is unfortunate that instead of engaging in constructive political engagement, Mr. Basiru has resorted to consistent verbal attacks, attempting to undermine the evident progress Osun State is witnessing under Governor Adeleke,” the statement read. “His bitterness is compounded by the fact that key leaders and members of his own party have openly aligned with another aspirant, further isolating him within the APC.”

The coalition emphasized that the achievements of the Adeleke-led administration have been acknowledged not only by citizens across the state but also by fair-minded members of the APC who have publicly attested to the improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and public welfare under his leadership.

“Mr. Basiru’s antics, rather than distract the Adeleke administration, only serve to reinforce the people’s belief in a government that has remained steadfast in fulfilling its campaign promises,” the group noted. “The people of Osun have remained consistent in their support for Governor Adeleke, and no amount of media propaganda or political tantrums can shake that resolve.”

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic values and good governance, the coalition praised the Adeleke administration for what it called “visible, measurable and people-focused governance,” and urged Osun residents to ignore “the desperate antics of frustrated politicians like Ajibola Basiru and his band of insignificant renegades.”

The statement concluded with a rallying call to the people of Osun State to remain united behind Governor Adeleke’s vision for a progressive and prosperous state, adding that civil society will continue to stand firm in support of good governance and responsible leadership.
