21-Year-Old Woman Dies After Allegedly Receiving Drips From Unregistered Nurse In Delta

Elizabeth Oyibode, a 21-year-old resident of Warri, Delta State, has died after receiving treatment from an alleged unregistered nurse identified as Mrs Odiase Stella.

The deceased reportedly developed severe complications after being placed on intravenous drips and medication at a shop operated by the suspect on New Era School Road, Off Jakpa Road in the Uvwie Local Government Area.

According to the National Coordinator of the Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (ISRCA), also known as “No Justice, No Peace,” Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, Elizabeth’s condition deteriorated rapidly after the unauthorised treatment.

“Wednesday, it was indeed a sad day for me and the entire group. We intercepted an unregistered (suspected) nurse who had administered medications with drips in her chemist shop which led to the death of late Miss. Elizabeth Oyibode resulting in paralysis of her brain, body, and her ability to speak or interact with anyone,” Agberen said.

“All thanks to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ekpan Divisional Headquarters; CSP Shaba Aliyu for responding swiftly.”

Agberen also said the victim’s fiancé, Mr Jonathan Okuma, had informed the group that the nurse suggested they cohabit, as the couple already had a child together.

He continued, “That during the period they started the treatment, the suspected nurse also claimed that late Miss. Elizabeth was having typhoid and malaria symptoms where she also insisted on prescribing medications and treatments at the same time, where Mr. Jonathan had stopped her, insisting that they should be done with the infection treatment before administering other medication.”

“The suspected nurse who had again called Mr Jonathan to send her money to run a diagnostic test on Elizabeth converted the money to administering drips and the same medication he initially cautioned her against that when he returns from work, he met his fiancé lying and receiving drips in her chemist shop,” Agberen added.

He said the medication administered caused Elizabeth’s brain and body to shut down, leaving her unable to talk or interact.

She died three days ago at the Warri Central Hospital.

The chemist shop has been shut down by the Ekpan Divisional Police Headquarters, and investigations are ongoing.

Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, did not respond to SaharaReporters’ calls and messages requesting a comment on the report.
