Chinese Politician Sentenced to Death (With Reprieve) Over $37.8M Bribery Scandal.

Wang Yong, former vice-chairman of the Xizang autonomous region government, has been handed a suspended de@th sentence for accepting br+bes totaling over 271 million yuan (approximately $37.8 million), a court in Hunan Province announced on Tuesday.

The Chenzhou Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Wang to de@th with a two-year reprieve, meaning the sentence could be commuted to life imprisonment if he does not commit further offenses during that period. He was also stripped of his political rights for life, with all personal assets ordered confiscated and illicit gains turned over to the state.

Between 2007 and 2023, Wang expl%ited various official roles — including leadership positions in China’s civil aviation sector and airport management in Guizhou to grant favors in project contracts and other areas in exchange for br+bes.
