Akure – The Ondo State Government has dismissed reports alleging that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced a probe into the activities of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) under its newly appointed leadership.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Comrade Olufemi Lawson, described the report as “untrue and misleading,” clarifying that the purported investigation relates to contracts and projects executed around 2018 under the previous administration, and has nothing to do with the present management.
According to Lawson, while the EFCC has a constitutional responsibility to scrutinize the financial administration of public institutions, including OSOPADEC, the current leadership of the commission under Prince Biyi Poroye, who assumed office in June 2025, is in no way connected to the alleged financial infractions of the past.
“We must emphasize that the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa remains fully committed to transparency and accountability in governance. The current OSOPADEC leadership under Prince Biyi Poroye is focused on delivering development to the oil-producing communities in the state, in line with the aspirations of the present administration,” Lawson stated.
He cautioned against attempts by “certain individuals” to sensationalize reports in order to cast aspersions on the incumbent government, stressing that such efforts would not derail the governor’s determination to provide responsible leadership.
“The Governor of Ondo State has unwavering confidence in the integrity and credibility of Prince Biyi Poroye. The new OSOPADEC leadership is already charting a path to fulfill its mandate, which is consistent with the vision of Governor Aiyedatiwa to transform the oil-producing areas and the state at large,” the statement added.
Lawson assured the public that the state government will continue to strengthen its institutions to ensure accountability while resisting distractions aimed at undermining its ongoing reforms.
