A socio-political advocacy group, One Kwara Agenda (OKA), has urged politicians in Kwara State to suspend partisan activities and join forces with government and security agencies to tackle the worsening security crisis in the state.
The group’s Convener, Comrade Femi Adetola, made the call in a statement issued in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Sunday. He said Kwara is facing “its worst and most brutal security challenges in recent history,” stressing that the situation demands collective action rather than early political manoeuvring.
“This is no time to play politics. This is the time for all hands to be on deck in finding lasting solutions to insecurity,” Adetola said.
“Government alone cannot resolve the crisis. Every stakeholder must join hands to protect our people and communities.”
The group warned that the premature commencement of political campaigns and endorsements has the tendency to distract leaders from governance, derail the state’s response to insecurity, and plunge affected communities into further despair.
It added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not even released a timetable for the 2027 elections, making the early political movements unnecessary and insensitive.
O.K.A also cautioned against sectional politics, noting that such tendencies only deepen division at a time when unity is most needed. The group insisted that the search for leadership in Kwara must be guided by competence, capacity, and integrity, rather than narrow or parochial considerations.
“What Kwara needs now are leaders who will rise above sectional sentiments and unite the people against insecurity,” the statement added.
“Lives are being lost, communities are under siege, and the people deserve solutions, not premature politicking.”
The group commiserated with families and communities that have suffered losses to recent attacks, while calling on security agencies to intensify their operations and on political leaders to demonstrate statesmanship by prioritising the safety and welfare of citizens over personal ambitions.
