Angry constituents chase Kano lawmaker Jobe from APC congress

Furious constituents reportedly chased away Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, a member of the House of Representatives, during the All Progressives Congress local government congress in Tofa LGA, Kano State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday at the venue of the congress, where party members and supporters had converged.

A viral video showed a mob of constituents shouting as they chased Mr Jobe—representing the Tofa, Dawakin-Tofa, and Rimin Gado Federal Constituencies—and his entourage out of the venue.

The angry crowd was heard saying, “We are not doing this again,” as they moved toward the federal lawmaker flanked by some security operatives.

The constituents also added, “You will not wait; take your chairman; don’t leave him behind. Don’t leave alone.”

While members of the crowd also accused the federal lawmaker of abandoning his people, some angrily moved towards him as a group of security personnel tried to shield the politician.

“We are not interested again. The representative cannot relate with the people, and he is not tolerant,” the crowd shouted.

Peoples Gazette could not immediately reach Mr Jobe and the APC’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, for comments, as several calls and messages to their telephone lines went unanswered.
Meanwhile, reports indicated that Mr Jobe’s appearance at the congress in his hometown was his first since he won his fifth term in the House of Representatives in 2023.

The lawmaker has faced recurring public backlash, including in 2020, when residents reportedly assaulted him over unfulfilled promises.

Mr Jobe has won elections under various platforms, including the All Nigeria Peoples Party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, and now the APC, reportedly relying on serving governors to win.

The lawmaker had also worked with former governors Ibrahim Shekarau, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Abdullahi Ganduje and now with Governor Abba Yusuf since 2023. His defection from the NNPC to the APC is reportedly linked to his desire to secure an automatic ticket in 2027.
