The Oyo State Executive Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with the backing of the party’s 33 Local Government Chairmen, has dismissed allegations of abuse of office, anti-party activities and arbitrary leadership levelled against the State Chairman, Princess Oyeronke Akinlolu, describing the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated.
In a statement jointly issued by the state leadership, the party said the allegations contained in a recent press release were calculated attempts to tarnish the image of the state chairman and undermine the growing fortunes of the NDC in Oyo State.
The party leadership maintained that Princess Akinlolu’s administration has recorded significant progress since assuming office, noting that the NDC has expanded its presence across all 33 Local Government Areas of the state, strengthened its structures and attracted increased membership.
According to the statement, it was unfortunate that at a time when the party was experiencing remarkable growth, some individuals whose personal ambitions had not been realised had resorted to sponsoring petitions and media campaigns aimed at creating unnecessary distractions.
The Executive Committee specifically accused the author of the controversial press release, Engr. Steve Oshiariyo, of acting out of personal grievances rather than genuine concern for the progress of the party. It alleged that his actions were designed to disrupt the unity, stability and rapid growth of the NDC in Oyo State.
The party also cautioned against taking internal party disagreements to the media, insisting that such issues should not be weaponised through sensational campaigns capable of misleading members and the public.
Rejecting the allegations in their entirety, the state leadership stated that decisions of the State Executive Committee are taken collectively in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution and resolutions of the appropriate organs.
It further explained that disciplinary actions against members, where necessary, are guided strictly by the party’s constitutional provisions and not by personal interests or bias.
The Oyo State Executive Committee and the 33 Local Government Chairmen reaffirmed their confidence in Princess Akinlolu’s leadership, describing her as a committed and dedicated leader whose sacrifices and determination have continued to strengthen the party and inspire members across the state.
The party consequently appealed to the national leadership, members and the general public to disregard the allegations against the state chairman, insisting that they were nothing more than attempts to create division within the party.
It added that its priority remains the continued growth of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the promotion of internal democracy, adherence to party discipline and the pursuit of electoral success in future elections.
The statement concluded with an assurance that the Oyo State chapter remains united, focused and committed to building a stronger NDC for the benefit of its members and the people of Oyo State.
