For many young women in Plateau State, politics has long appeared to be a space dominated by the powerful and the well-connected
But Sandra Sele Pam, a young lawyer with a passion for public service, believes a new chapter is possible.
As she seeks election into the Plateau State House of Assembly to represent Jos South State Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sele Pam is presenting herself not just as another politician, but as a daughter of the constituency who understands the daily struggles of her people and believes leadership should be measured by service, compassion and results.
At a time when many residents of Jos South continue to grapple with limited opportunities, the youthful legal practitioner says her aspiration is driven by a desire to become a voice for those who often feel unheard.
“My vision is to deliver purposeful representation by championing policies and projects that improve the quality of life of every resident of Jos South,” she said.
To many women, youths and elderly residents across Jos South, Sandra Sele Pam represents a new generation of leadership built on compassion, accessibility and accountability.
Supporters describe her as approachable, hardworking and deeply committed to improving the lives of ordinary people.
They believe her emergence offers an opportunity for more inclusive representation that prioritises the needs of women, creates opportunities for young people and ensures that the elderly are not left behind in the development of the constituency.
As a young lawyer, Sele Pam believes her legal background has equipped her with the knowledge required to make meaningful contributions through legislation, oversight and effective representation in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Central to her vision is the empowerment of women, youths and the elderly.
She believes young people deserve opportunities to acquire skills, secure decent livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to society.
She also advocates greater economic opportunities and leadership inclusion for women, while calling for improved welfare and social protection for the elderly, whom she says deserve dignity, care and recognition for their contributions to society.
Education also occupies a prominent place in her agenda.
She says every child deserves access to quality education and has pledged to support initiatives that improve learning facilities, expand scholarship opportunities and encourage academic excellence.
On healthcare, Sele Pam believes every resident, regardless of location or income, should have access to affordable and quality medical services, especially vulnerable members of society.
She also recognises agriculture as a major source of livelihood for many families in Jos South and says she will support policies that improve access to farm inputs, training and markets for local farmers.
Recognising the security challenges confronting many communities, Sele Pam has pledged to support initiatives that strengthen collaboration among communities, traditional institutions and security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
Infrastructure development also features prominently in her agenda.
She says improved roads, potable water, electricity and other basic amenities are essential to unlocking the economic potential of Jos South and improving the quality of life of residents.
Beyond policy, Sele Pam says she intends to maintain an open-door leadership style that encourages regular consultation with constituents and ensures that every community has a voice in governance.
“Our Voice, Our Future is more than a campaign slogan. It is a commitment to building a constituency where every voice matters, women are empowered, young people are given opportunities to succeed, the elderly are cared for, communities thrive, quality education and healthcare are accessible, and opportunities abound for everyone,” she said.
She added that the journey to a better Jos South requires collective effort and called on residents to embrace a new direction founded on unity, accountability and inclusive development.
“The future begins with the choices we make today. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Jos South,” she added.
