The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance (CCSOGG) has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the people of the state on the Governor’s victory at the August 15, 2026 Governorship Election, describing the outcome as a reaffirmation of the people’s confidence in his administration.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Declan Ihekiare, and Secretary, Olalekan Johnson, the Coalition said it had, for over two years, consistently mobilized support for the Adeleke administration in the face of what it described as sustained political attacks and attempts by desperate political interests to undermine the government.
The group said its support for the administration was based on its commitment to democratic principles and the belief that the mandate freely given by the people should be protected. It described the election outcome as a clear demonstration of the power of the electorate, urging all political actors in the state to respect the decision of the people and put the collective interest of Osun above partisan considerations.
The Coalition also commended several pro-democracy actors who, according to it, remained committed to defending democratic values despite threats and pressure during the period leading to the election. It specifically acknowledged Ebenezer Ige, SSA to the Governor on Civil Society, and Rasheed Olawale, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, alongside numerous civil society leaders, community stakeholders and other unnamed patriots who stood on the side of the democratic struggle.
“Those who stood firm in defence of democracy, particularly in moments when doing so came with personal risks and pressure, deserve recognition. Their commitment contributed to the preservation of the democratic mandate of the people of Osun,” the Coalition stated.
However, the organization challenged Governor Adeleke to see his renewed mandate as a greater responsibility to the people and an opportunity to surpass his previous achievements. It urged him to intensify efforts in infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment, workers’ welfare, rural development, security and economic empowerment.
The Coalition particularly called on the Governor to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach communities across all parts of the state, stressing that the people did not merely vote for political continuity but for better opportunities, improved livelihoods and a government that places their welfare above political interests.
It also urged Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to build bridges across political divides and run a more inclusive government where citizens, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic background, religion or location, would have a sense of belonging.
The group further encouraged the administration to maintain an open relationship with civil society organizations and other independent voices, arguing that constructive criticism remains an essential component of democratic governance.
According to the Coalition, “the ultimate measure of electoral victory is not simply the margin at the polls, but the quality of lives transformed during the tenure.”
It wished Governor Adeleke wisdom and strength in the new phase of his administration, while urging him to regard the renewed mandate as a solemn obligation to deliver greater dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State.
