The Ondo State Police Command has paraded a 21-year-old final-year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, identified as Olubodun Sanni, arrested for killing a 20-year-old female student of the school, Ifeoluwa Adekunle.
Sanni, a final-year student of Geology, who lived in the same off-campus hostel with Adekunle, was said to have stabbed the deceased to death in her room and stolen her iPhone XR.
Parading the suspect alongside other criminals, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the state police commissioner, CP Abayomi Oladipo, said Sanni was arrested following the use of modern technology to trace the deceased’s stolen phone.
The police commissioner said the case was reported to the police on February 2, 2024.
He said Ifeoluwa Adekunle, a 300-level student of the school, was found in a pool of blood at her off-campus hostel and was rushed to the university health centre.
She was later referred to a specialist hospital in Ikare Akoko, where she was confirmed dead, the police commissioner said.
Oladipo said, “In the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased’s phone was missing.
“The police, through the use of modern technology, traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni ‘m’, aged 21 years, a final-year student of the same school who is also a neighbour to the deceased in the hostel.”
He said after being questioned, the suspect “gave details of what happened in his confessional statement, including how he entered the deceased room, stabbed her in the chest with a knife, and stole her iPhone XR”.
He added that the suspect would be prosecuted at the end of the investigation.
