‘Oluomo of Derby’ Refunds Nigerian Vet’s £7,000 after FIJ’s Call-out

Benjamin Kuti, the immediate past president of the Nigerians in the UK (NIUK) community, better known as Oluomo of Derby, has refunded £7,000 to Olowu, a Nigerian veterinary doctor in the United Kingdom.

This development comes less than 24 hours after FIJ’s report on how Kuti failed to refund Olowu in full for 17 months following a failed Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) deal.

Confirming the latest development, Olowu told FIJ that he woke up to a credit alert from Kuti on Thursday morning.

“Thank you so much for your intervention, FIJ. Your publication has a good result. I woke up to a credit alert from him (Kuti),” Olowu told FIJ.

On Wednesday, FIJ reported that after Olowu paid Kuti £10,000 for a CoS in August 2023, Kuti did not turn it in until Olowu got frustrated and demanded a refund.

As of December 2024, Kuti had only refunded £3,000 despite failed promises. FIJ gave Kuti a February 14 ultimatum to refund the source’s money, but he did not do so until FIJ’s report.
