Mikang LGA, Plateau State, Members of the Mikang Youths Vanguard Coalition gathered in a show of unity on, organizing a sensitization event aimed at creating awareness on the need to uphold the rotational system in Mikang Local Government Area so that all districts can enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The gathering brought together youths from the four districts of Mikang LGA: Tehl, Piapung, Koenoem, and Garkawa, under one non-partisan platform to deliberate on the future of representation in the area.
Declaring the purpose of the meeting, the President of the Tehl Youth Movement (TYM), who also doubles as President of the Mikang Youth Vanguard Coalition, Comr. Daniel Dajen welcomed all participants and thanked God as the architect of this day, for making the convergence possible.
Comr. Dajen emphasized that the gathering was not a political rally, but a non-partisan platform uniting Mikang sons and daughters to collectively stand against the idea of a 4th term in the constituency.
“We are all ambassadors of Mikang. Everybody is eligible to vote and to be voted for. But we need power rotation, and it is this rotation that brought me on board,” he stated.
He urged the coalition to stand firm in opposition to a fourth term, arguing that prolonged stay in office by one district undermines fairness and slows down the cycle of representation.
Comrade Dajen also lamented the extended years some representatives have spent at the State Assembly, questioning how long it would take for the rotation to complete if each district’s representative served 16 years. He further highlighted that the Speaker’s position is also subject to zoning, noting that without zoning the Speaker will not emerg. .
He further appreciate the government of the day under the leadership of His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. He called on the State government to recognize that the youths of Mikang strongly support zoning and urged the National Party Chairman to acknowledge this stance as well.
The coalition maintained that rotation ensures inclusivity, prevents political monopoly, and gives every district an opportunity to contribute to the development of Mikang through representation.
In response, representatives from all four districts spoke, reflecting on the unity within Mikang and the rotational system that the LGA enjoys. They advised the youths to fight for their rights peacefully and condemned any form of violence.
The event was well attended by National Youth Presidents representing all ethnic groups in Mikang, alongside prominent stakeholders and sons and daughters of Mikang who are advocates for good governance and the protection of democratic rights.
This gathering underscored the collective commitment of Mikang youths and leaders to uphold the principles of democracy, power rotation, and peaceful advocacy for their rights.
