The Integrity Youth Alliance (IYA) has strongly dismissed the allegations contained in a publication by Sahara Reporters titled, “CSO Alleges Multi-Billion Naira Contract Fraud, Irregularities In Police Contracts, Lists 296 Payments Under Ex-IGP Egbetokun,” attributed to a group known as the Budget Implementation, Assessment, Evaluation and Monitoring Committee.
The Alliance described the allegations as speculative, unsubstantiated, and lacking in verifiable evidence, stressing that former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, operated an open, transparent, and accountable administration throughout his tenure as the head of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement on Monday, 15th June 2026, signed by its National Coordinator, Kelvin Adegbenga, the Integrity Youth Alliance stated that all contracts and payments executed during the tenure of former IGP Egbetokun followed established due process and were subjected to rigorous scrutiny through the appropriate institutional mechanisms.
“Contrary to the sensational claims being circulated, all contracts and payments undertaken during the tenure of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun passed through the Police Management Team and were subjected to the oversight of both internal and external auditors. These processes were designed to ensure strict compliance with extant procurement laws, financial regulations, and accountability standards,” the statement said.
The Alliance further noted that former IGP Egbetokun remains fully prepared to account for every aspect of his stewardship while in office, emphasizing that he has nothing to hide and no skeleton in his cupboard.
“Former IGP Kayode Egbetokun has consistently demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and commitment to institutional accountability. He is ready at any time to render an account of his stewardship in office because he has no skeleton in his cupboard and remains confident that every decision taken under his leadership can withstand public scrutiny.”
According to the group, it closely monitored the activities and reforms implemented by Egbetokun throughout his tenure and can confidently attest to his adherence to established procurement and financial regulations.
“As an organization that monitored the administration of former IGP Egbetokun, we can boldly state that regardless of the scope or nature of any so-called comprehensive investigation, there is no record indicating that he breached procurement procedures or violated financial regulations. His tenure was marked by transparency, accountability, and institutional discipline.”
The Integrity Youth Alliance also challenged the Budget Implementation, Assessment, Evaluation and Monitoring Committee to make public the alleged “documented payment schedules covering 296 transactions” upon which it claims to have based its allegations.
“It is not enough to make sweeping accusations in the media. We challenge the Budget Implementation, Assessment, Evaluation and Monitoring Committee to immediately publish the purported documented payment schedules covering the 296 transactions it referenced. Nigerians deserve to see the evidence behind these serious allegations rather than relying on vague claims and insinuations.”
The group maintained that transparency must apply equally to both public officials and their accusers, insisting that allegations of misconduct should be supported by credible facts and verifiable documentation.
The Alliance concluded by affirming that every attempt to drag former IGP Kayode Egbetokun into malicious and unfounded allegations would be firmly resisted. It reiterated, however, that the former police chief remains willing and ready to submit to any legitimate review process, including a full forensic audit, to clarify the nature and legitimacy of expenditures made during his tenure.
“While we will continue to resist every effort to tarnish the reputation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun through malicious and unsubstantiated allegations, we also note that he has repeatedly demonstrated his readiness for any full forensic audit aimed at clarifying the nature and legitimacy of expenditures under his administration. Such an exercise would only further confirm his commitment to transparency and accountability.”
