PRESS RELEASE
The Langtang North Local Government Council has flagged off the distribution of farm inputs to farmers across the Local Government Area as part of efforts by the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food security, and improve the livelihoods of residents.
The flag-off ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Langtang North Local Government Secretariat, attracted government officials, farmers, traditional and religious leaders, community stakeholders, and members of the media.
Represented by the Deputy Chairman of Council, Hon. Deborah Dalen, the Executive Chairman said the intervention demonstrates his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers and making agriculture a major driver of economic development in Langtang North.
Hon. Tyem noted that agriculture remains the backbone of many communities in the Local Government Area, adding that his administration has continued to prioritise practical interventions that will improve productivity and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
He recalled previous agricultural support programmes, including the distribution of subsidised fertilizers, and highlighted the successful introduction and first harvest of barley cultivation in Langtang North as evidence of the Council’s commitment to agricultural innovation and diversification.
The Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Bwaichak Wapzhi, explained that the intervention was designed to support peasant farmers and vulnerable groups across the Local Government Area.
The farm inputs distributed include 500 knapsack sprayers, 500 bags of improved FARO 44 rice seeds, 350 bags of improved SAMMAZ 52 maize seeds, and 195 bags of improved soybean seeds.
He stated that the beneficiaries cut across the wards and include farmers, women, youths, persons living with disabilities, traditional and religious leaders, and other community stakeholders.
The Executive Chairman urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the inputs, stressing that the success of the programme would be measured by increased agricultural output, improved livelihoods, and stronger communities.
The Council appreciated all stakeholders and members of the media for their support in promoting development and accountability in Langtang North.
