No fewer than 200 widows and vulnerable women drawn from the 121 polling units across the nine federal wards of Langtang North Central State Constituency, Plateau State, on Sunday benefited from a widows’ outreach organised by the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the constituency in the forthcoming 2027 Plateau State House of Assembly election, Hon. Chief Nandir Lar, popularly known as the Gimbiyan Gani.
The outreach, tagged Jagoran Talakawa Widows’ Outreach, was held at the Pil-Gani Market Square on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
The event featured colourful displays by various women’s singing groups, special prayers and goodwill messages from political leaders, traditional rulers, clergymen and other dignitaries.
The beneficiaries, dressed in colourful uniforms, were accorded special seating arrangements as a mark of recognition and appreciation, reinforcing the message that widows and vulnerable women remained an important part of the constituency.
Items distributed during the programme included cash tokens, food items, soaps and other toiletries.
The gesture elicited expressions of joy and appreciation from the beneficiaries, who described the intervention as timely and meaningful.
Speaking at the event, Lar said the outreach was motivated by compassion and a desire to draw attention to the challenges confronting widows and other vulnerable members of society.
She noted that widows often shoulder enormous responsibilities following the death of their husbands, including raising children, providing food, paying school fees and meeting other basic family needs.
According to her, the challenges confronting widows deserved the collective attention and support of well-meaning individuals and organisations.
Lar stressed that the initiative was not designed as a political programme but as a demonstration of love, compassion and concern for humanity.
She said: “It is simply our little way of saying to our widows that you are not forgotten; you matter, and your wellbeing matters to us.”
The APC candidate further pledged that, if elected to represent Langtang North Central State Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2027, she would pursue inclusive representation that would ensure that no segment of the constituency was neglected.
She identified young people seeking opportunities, market women, children, farmers, artisans, widows and other vulnerable groups as constituents whose concerns deserved adequate legislative attention.
Lar also announced that the widows’ outreach would, God willing, become an annual programme, assuring the beneficiaries that the initiative would continue beyond the 2026 edition.
She urged individuals and organisations to cultivate the habit of helping people in need, saying even modest acts of kindness could restore hope and transform lives.
Meanwhile, goodwill messages at the event featured calls for unity among APC members following the conclusion of the party’s internal primaries.
The APC Chairman in Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Selbol, said the party’s primaries were over and urged members who had been on different sides during the process to close ranks and support the party’s candidates.
According to him, there was now “one APC,” stressing the need for members to work together towards victory for the party.
Similarly, the Leader of the Legislative Arm of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Nanloh Miri-Dashe, called on party members to remain united, stressing that the party remained supreme.
Also speaking, President of the Tarok Youth Worldwide, TAPYA, Amb. Miri Timnan Nyantau, conveyed greetings from the Tarok youth wing and represented Hon. Beni Lar, APC candidate for Langtang North and South Federal Constituency.
A high-level delegation from Wase Local Government Area also attended the programme, conveying greetings from Hon. Jibrin Bancir, Personal Private Secretary to the APC National Chairman.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Diggai Comfort from Warok Ward, expressed profound appreciation to Lar for the gesture.
Comfort prayed for God to elevate Lar to a higher position where, she said, the APC candidate would have greater capacity to assist widows, vulnerable persons and other less privileged members of society.
The programme also featured special prayers by clergymen for the widows and Lar, seeking God’s continued blessings, strength and guidance for the beneficiaries and the organiser.
Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Amos Bulus Cirfat, Hon. Brian Dadi, Dr. Timzing Miri-Dashe and Mr. Jesse Nanden Zwalda, alongside clergymen, traditional rulers, political stakeholders and supporters from within and outside Langtang North Central State Constituency.
