INEC Chairman Meets Google Global Lead On AI, Elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, has met Google’s Global Lead for Civic Responsibility, David J. Lopez, in Ottawa, Canada.

The meeting, held on Friday, September 11, took place on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Responsible AI and Elections.

The conference brings together election management bodies, technology experts and other stakeholders to examine the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence in electoral processes.

Amupitan was accompanied by INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Lawrence Bayode.

The engagement comes as election management bodies and technology stakeholders increasingly examine the role of AI in strengthening electoral processes while addressing emerging risks ahead of future elections, including Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
