Plateau Regeneration group faults PDP spokesman over Jos-Ibi road credit claims

Warns Against Discord Between Mutfwang and Nentawe

The Plateau Regeneration Group (PRG) has strongly criticised a statement credited to Mr. Samaila Achigak, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, over the Mararaba-Jos-Ibi Federal Road project.

In a press statement signed by Yatu Promise on behalf of the group, PRG accused Achigak of making “intemperate” remarks and of reducing a major federal intervention to a political quarrel over credit.

The group said only a mind “imprisoned by local and petty politics” would turn news of the road project into a fight over who should claim glory.

It quoted 1 Corinthians 3:6 — “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase” — to argue that different stakeholders can play complementary roles without factionalism.

PRG described as “wicked, insensitive and shameful” any attempt to sow discord between Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. It said both men, along with other Plateau stakeholders, should be acknowledged for their contributions, while ultimate credit belongs to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under whose administration the federal intervention was approved.

The group rejected any suggestion that Governor Mutfwang was desperate for achievements or seeking to “steal” glory.

It maintained that, apart from the legacy of former Governor Jonah David Jang, no Plateau governor in recent history has matched the scale and spread of interventions under Mutfwang in his first term across infrastructure, transportation, urban renewal, agriculture, education, healthcare and recovery of public assets.

PRG emphasised that the Mararaba-Jos-Ibi Road is a Federal Government project that belongs to the people of Plateau — farmers, transporters, communities and businesses — and not to any individual politician.

It called on stakeholders to prioritise constructive engagement with the Presidency and to celebrate development rather than manufacture rivalries.

“Some will plant, others will water, but it is God who gives the increase. When the increase comes, wise men celebrate the harvest; only fools quarrel over who carried the watering can,” the statement said.

The group urged Governor Mutfwang to continue working with President Tinubu, Professor Nentawe, federal institutions and other Plateau stakeholders, while dismissing critics as “political simpletons and scavengers” focused on headlines rather than outcomes.

It concluded that posterity would judge leaders by whether Plateau moved forward, not by who lobbied for which project.
