(Lagos, 8 , October 2026) Generations of Queen’s College old girls will embark on a walkathon in major cities across Nigeria, the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom on Saturday, 10 October, marking the school’s 99th Founders’ Day and the commencement of the countdown to its centenary in 2027.
The Association’s President, Engr. Temitayo Okunoren-Makindipe, announced the plans and unveiled a centenary planning committee chaired by Ms Prisca Soares, a distinguished Nigerian insurance professional, the first female Managing Director of NICON Insurance and former Secretary-General of the African Insurance Organisation.
Following Saturday’s walkathon, the President said the Association will intensify preparations for the centenary programme, bringing together old girls at home and abroad, friends of the College and prospective partners. “Our ambition is to transform the sisterhood shared by generations of old girls into enduring support for today’s students and those yet to come,” she said.
According to Okunoren-Makindipe, that commitment is already reflected in the Association’s work, which includes solar-powered lighting through the Light Up QC initiative, the establishment of the Endowment Fund, mentoring and career guidance, improvements to school facilities across education and sports projects, among other interventions. “The centenary offers us an opportunity to build on these contributions and inspire even greater support for our school,” she added.
Founded on 10 October 1927, Queen’s College has played a significant role in shaping generations of Nigerian women. Now, the Queen’s College Old Girls’ Association (QCOGA) is rallying its global community for a year-long series of activities to celebrate that legacy and mobilise support for the school’s next century.
“Details of the centenary programme and opportunities to participate will be announced in the coming months,” the Association’s President concluded. She also encouraged old girls around the world to participate actively in Saturday’s events and join the landmark centenary celebrations ahead.
