Dangote Industries Limited has denied ownership of the truck involved in a fatal accident on Wednesday along Enugu-Port-Harcourt Highway, which claimed six lives and injured several others.
It had been reported that a truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla collided around 9 am, killing all five occupants.
The truck, bearing the inscription of Visco Investment Global Limited, was travelling from Aba to Abuja when the accident occurred.
However, viral videos of the accident claimed that the truck belonged to the Dangote Group due to its brand signature.
But in its rebuttal, the management dismissed the claim, insisting that the vehicle in question was operated by a third party.
In a statement released to the media and shared on its official social media platforms, the Dangote Group pledged to take decisive measures to safeguard its brand identity.
“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to find out why the truck was carrying our logo when it is not part of our fleet.
“Going forward, we will apply more scrutiny to the unauthorised use of our brand identity, especially the misuse of our logo on vehicles not linked to the Group,” the company stated.
The company noted that it usually refrains from commenting on individual cases but was compelled by misinformation.
“Ordinarily, it is our policy not to comment on individual cases, but the spread of misinformation linking these incidents to the Dangote Group without evidence has compelled us to respond.
“We call on the public and the media to avoid spreading unverified claims,” the statement partly read.
The group also pledged support for the authorities handling the matter.
“We are committed to cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and insist that investigations should be allowed to run their course without interference.
“We strongly reject attempts to exploit tragedies like this for malicious or financial gain,” the statement concluded.
The company maintained that it remains committed to the highest standards of corporate responsibility, safety, and integrity.
In August 2025, a tragic incident involving a Dangote Group truck claimed the life of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija reality TV star Phyna.
Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, was struck by a heavy-duty vehicle near the campus just days after completing her studies. The accident left her with severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg and trauma to her head and hands.
Despite initial promises from the Dangote Group to support her medical treatment, including plans to fly her abroad, Ruth succumbed to her injuries on August 31.
Phyna publicly mourned her sister and demanded accountability, sparking widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny of road safety practices involving corporate-owned trucks.
The incident reignited national conversations about underage and unlicensed drivers operating heavy vehicles, and the broader issue of corporate responsibility on Nigerian roads.
