NORTH CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION SADDENED BY DEATHS IN PLATEAU

The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has expressed deep sadness over the recent tragic deaths in Plateau State arising from mining incidents and renewed insecurity in parts of the State.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Cyril Yiltsen Tsenyil, in a message to the Government and people of Plateau State, described the death of miners in Zurak Kompani, Wase Local Government Area, as very unfortunate and painful.

He noted with regret that accidents in mining communities have continued to claim lives and cause injuries, stressing that urgent and coordinated steps must be taken to improve safety standards and regulatory compliance within the sector.

While sympathising with the families of the deceased and praying for the speedy recovery of those injured, the Managing Director reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to engage critical stakeholders in the mining value chain to promote safer mining practices and ensure that the sector delivers sustainable economic benefits to local communities.

The Commission also expressed sadness over attacks in some communities of Barkin Ladi, which resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property, describing the recurring incidents as deeply troubling and unacceptable.

The NCDC extended its heartfelt condolences to the affected families and communities and called for strengthened collaboration among security agencies, community leaders, and relevant authorities to address the root causes of the violence.

The Commission further urged that perpetrators be apprehended and brought to justice in accordance with the laws of the land.

The NCDC reassures the people of Plateau State of its continued commitment to initiatives that promote peace, safety, and sustainable development across the North Central region.
