NSCDC CG Reappointment: Campaign for Democracy congratulates Audi, lauds President Tinubu

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has commended President Bola Tinubu for the reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh term of five years, describing the decision as a bold step toward consolidating security sector reforms in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a press release issued on Monday and signed by the General Secretary, Comrade Olufemi Lawson, the CD said the reappointment reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to continuity, performance, and institutional strengthening, particularly in critical security agencies tasked with safeguarding national assets and protecting citizens.

According to Lawson, Dr. Audi’s first tenure as Commandant-General was marked by significant operational reforms, improved personnel welfare, and enhanced protection of critical national infrastructure across the country. The group noted that under his leadership, the NSCDC intensified its crackdown on oil theft, pipeline vandalism, illegal mining activities, and other economic sabotage, thereby contributing to improved national revenue protection.

The CD further highlighted that CG Audi spearheaded strategic capacity-building initiatives, including specialized training for officers in intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism support, and disaster response management. These efforts, the group said, repositioned the Corps as a proactive and technologically responsive security agency capable of complementing other security services in tackling emerging threats.

The press release also credited Dr. Audi with strengthening inter-agency collaboration, fostering community-based security frameworks, and expanding the NSCDC’s presence in rural and underserved communities. This grassroots security approach, the group noted, aligns strongly with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes inclusive governance, economic revitalization, and the protection of national resources.

“The reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Audi is a clear affirmation that performance, accountability, and strategic leadership are being rewarded under this administration,” the statement read. “His stewardship has enhanced public confidence in the NSCDC and reinforced the Corps’ constitutional mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.”

The Campaign for Democracy stressed that continuity in leadership at the NSCDC would consolidate ongoing reforms, sustain anti-vandalism operations, and deepen modernization efforts within the Corps. It added that the stability provided by the renewed mandate would enable long-term planning, institutional discipline, and improved service delivery.

The group expressed optimism that the next five years would witness further digitalization of operations, expansion of intelligence-driven security architecture, and stronger synergy with federal and state authorities to combat economic sabotage and insecurity.

While appreciating President Tinubu for what it described as a “well-considered and merit-based decision,” the CD urged the reappointed Commandant-General to intensify efforts at transparency, professionalism, and respect for human rights in the discharge of the Corps’ duties.
