APC National Chairman Prof Yilwatda condoles Kanam emirate over deadly security ambush

National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress Prof Nentawe Yilwatda has condoled the people of Kanam Emirate in Plateau State following a recent deadly ambush on security personnel that claimed over 20 lives and deepened community distress.

The attack, which occurred on March 13, 2026, in the Garga axis including communities such as Wanka, Kyaram, and Gyambau targeted a joint patrol team of military officers, soldiers, and local vigilantes, resulting in heavy casualties amid ongoing banditry and insecurity in the area.

Prof Yilwatda who visited the Emir of Kanam Alhaji Muhammad Muazu Muhammad extended his deepest sympathies to the affected families and the entire emirate, standing in solidarity during this difficult period.

“My thoughts are firmly with the affected families, and I stand in solidarity with the entire Emirate,” he said. “I pray for comfort for those who have suffered losses and for the swift restoration of peace, unity, and stability across Kanam.”

To provide immediate assistance, Prof Yilwatda facilitated the distribution of relief materials to vulnerable households in the impacted communities.

He described the intervention as modest but essential to ease hardships and assure residents they are not alone.

“This effort, though limited, is intended to alleviate immediate suffering and reassure our people that support is available in these trying times,” he added.

Prof Yilwatda also participated in the Hawan Daushe celebration in Dengi, a vibrant cultural durbar that forms a key part of Eid al-Fitr festivities in the emirate.

The event saw him join the Emir of Kanam, Alhaji Muazu Muhammad Muhammed, traditional rulers, and resilient community members in a show of unity.

He highlighted the occasion as a moment to reflect on the spiritual significance of the Sallah season while celebrating the enduring strength of the Kanam people.

“What remains most inspiring is the unwavering courage, unity, and resilience demonstrated by the people of Kanam in the face of adversity,” Prof Yilwatda noted.

“These qualities remind us that hope and collective determination can prevail even in dark moments.”

He urged leaders and citizens alike to renew commitments to peacebuilding, enhanced security, and a future free from fear, where every community can thrive.

Prof Yilwatda also congratulated the Emir and the people of Kanam on successfully completing the holy month of Ramadan and joyously celebrating Eid al-Fitr (Sallah), praying for renewed blessings, enduring peace, and abundant prosperity.
